August 02 2023

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation handed over to the National Assets Investigation Agency of Ukraine (ARMA) the seized cargo containing precious metals for the total amount of UAH 10.3 million.

In February 2023, a criminal scheme to export precious and non-ferrous metals from Ukraine was exposed, which was organized by representatives of a private Kyiv company together with Volyn Customs officials. In two trucks with trailers, the perpetrators tried to take more than 45.5 tons of scrap, which contains non-ferrous and precious metals, out of the country. Since such export is prohibited by law, the cargo was registered as brass slag. In fact, the trucks contained whole and crushed chips containing platinum, gold, and non-ferrous metals. The recipient is a German company!

The SBI blocked the export of precious metals, the detained cargo was arrested.

As evidenced by the examination, it contained: 1.7 kg of gold, 25.5 kg of silver, 0.5 kg of platinum, 2.1 kg of palladium, 6.5 kg of copper. The total cost of metals amounted to UAH 10.3 million

The investigation into the fact of abuse of official position by customs officials is ongoing (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides imprisonment for a term of up to 6 years.
